Editor: Here we have "Invocation des Mythes V," a mixed-media painting from 2012 by Carlos Sablón. It’s all soft shapes and colours… feels very organic and a little dreamlike, almost as if I’m looking at the inside of a flower or a strange underwater scene. What kind of images or ideas does it conjure up for you? Curator: You know, looking at it now, I feel like I've stumbled into the artist's mind—a lush, tangled garden of half-formed ideas and emotions struggling to take shape. I find the textures so fascinating. I mean, does anyone else see that shimmering jellyfish-like form hovering at the top? Almost ethereal. Editor: Oh yes, I noticed it right away! The colour contrast with the earthy tones below is striking. Curator: Precisely! It is like memories emerging from the depths. For me, this piece hums with the tension between our conscious and unconscious minds. Those blurred edges invite my mind to complete the shapes. Editor: It is such an interesting contrast. What do you make of the title, then? "Invocation des Mythes" – Invocation of Myths. Curator: Well, “invocation” suggests a summoning, a bringing forth. Perhaps Sablón is channeling something ancient, archetypal. I picture stories being whispered through those forms – creation myths, perhaps? Maybe it’s the artist's personal mythology; we will never truly know! Editor: I love how you described that as stumbling into the artist’s mind. That is really insightful! Curator: Thanks! And thanks for lending your fresh eyes to it. I am sure there is more here that we missed!
