Roger Mayne captured ‘Street Football, Addison Place W11’ with photography, documenting an un-posed moment, like catching life in action. The grainy texture of the print gives the whole scene a kind of rawness, a directness that feels totally authentic, not slick, but so real. The contrasts are stark, which emphasizes the dynamic movement of the boys playing, they're totally present and in the moment. I love how Mayne freezes time, with a focus that's sharp but not overly so. The way the light catches the cobblestones and brickwork—it's all about the texture and light of an everyday experience. Those deeper shadows lend the image an almost theatrical quality, casting the scene in a dramatic light. Mayne reminds me of Helen Levitt, capturing fleeting moments of urban life with such heart.
