This drawing of a candlestick was made by Albert Camilli, who lived between 1855 and 1995. I imagine him carefully rendering this object, observing how light bounces off the metal. What was he thinking as he built up these layers of color? This isn’t just a candlestick, it's a study of form. The lines are precise, but there's a softness too; it feels like he’s caressing the object with his gaze. I'm interested in that dark shading around the curves. There’s something melancholic about the drawing, the way it captures the quiet stillness of everyday life, not unlike Chardin's still lifes. You can see Camilli’s hand in the small imperfections and variations in tone, which make it feel so intimate and human.
