Scott Fraser created this still life painting entitled, "Applied Reflections" using oil paint. Fraser masterfully invites us into a world of illusions, where mirrors reflect not just images, but also deeper questions about identity, representation and perception. In this arrangement, Fraser doesn't just reproduce what he sees, but constructs a narrative, playing with layers of reality and reflection. The placement of the Delftware pitcher, shells and geometric design hint at colonial histories of trade and cultural exchange, as well as the appropriation of non-western aesthetics into European design. Delftware often featured blue and white scenes, reminiscent of Chinese porcelain, indicating cross-cultural dialogues. "Applied Reflections" invites us to consider the complex ways in which objects carry cultural meanings and reflect our own identities. It prompts questions about who we are, how we see ourselves, and how we are seen by others.
