Arshile Gorky’s *Summation* (1947) is a prime example of Abstract Expressionism, a movement that emerged in the United States in the post-World War II era. Gorky, an Armenian-American artist, created an emotional landscape using biomorphic forms and swirling lines, suggestive of both nature and the human figure. Executed in a muted palette of browns, grays, and blues, the work evokes a sense of both melancholy and hope, reflecting Gorky’s personal struggles and the turbulent world of the time. It is now part of the collection at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
