Peter Rostrup Bøyesen made this composition sketch after "Sivfolk" with pencil and watercolor. You can see right away how the whole image is built through these quick, transparent marks. The texture of the paper is really present, which is interesting. Look closely, and you’ll notice that there are areas where the watercolor bleeds slightly outside the pencil lines, giving the scene a kind of hazy, dreamlike quality. The color palette is so understated, mostly muted greens, browns, and grays, which adds to the overall feeling of melancholy and quiet observation. The composition of the piece is kind of interesting, because you see the back of a figure really clearly in the foreground, while the other figures in the scene are hazier and harder to see. Thinking of other artists, maybe someone like Vilhelm Hammershøi comes to mind, with his similarly muted tones and focus on capturing a certain mood or atmosphere. Ultimately, this piece invites us to slow down and really look at the world around us.
