This photographic print of a young couple walking onto a stage was made by Robert Burian, but we don't know exactly when. I love how Burian embraces the process, like he’s setting a stage for something about to unfold, and he just wants to capture the right moment. There’s a starkness to the black and white that pulls you in. The contrast makes everything pop, especially the figures and the formal wear. There are so many details, like the man reaching his arm to the woman in front. You almost feel the texture of the scene, the smoothness of his suit, against the weight of her dress, or even the grain of the wooden chairs in the foreground. Burian reminds me a bit of someone like Garry Winogrand, capturing these fleeting moments with an unscripted, anything-can-happen energy. It's this feeling that there's no single "right" way to interpret things that makes art so alive, don't you think?
