This large, round storage jar, or olla, was made by the Ancestral Pueblo people (also known as the Anasazi) between 1150 and 1300. It is decorated with a striking geometric pattern of black lines and spirals on a white background. This design exemplifies the intricate artistry of the Pueblo people, who used ceramic art for both practical and symbolic purposes. The olla, a vital part of their daily life, was used for storing water, grains, and other essential items. The Art Institute of Chicago houses this exquisite example of Ancestral Pueblo pottery.
