Curator: This intriguing altered book page is by Esq Tom Phillips. Though untitled, it appears on page 294 of his seminal work, A Humument: A Human Document. Editor: It feels like peering into a fragmented dream. Those pink and green shapes…and the words floating like disjointed thoughts. Curator: Exactly. Phillips uses erasure and collage, drawing out words from the original text to create something new. Note "smothering peace" alongside "He was cruel." Editor: It’s a strange juxtaposition, isn’t it? Almost violent in its serenity, yet tinged with a sense of hard Miss Markham. Curator: Perhaps reflecting the chaotic nature of memory itself, how feelings and narratives get layered and distorted over time. Editor: It’s stuck with me. The subconcious is a strange and powerful place.
