Alfred Freddy Krupa made this black and white photograph titled, Resting, and it’s the kind of image where the process is hidden, but you feel it nonetheless. The photograph shows two feet, one resting on the other. The texture is soft, almost velvety, creating a mood of introspection. The tones of grey suggest an exploration of light and shadow, not just as elements of form, but as emotional registers, echoing the quietude and peace suggested in the title. There’s something very intimate about the positioning of the feet, as though they are in dialogue with one another. This reminds me of work by Lucien Freud, who had an amazing eye for the nuances of the body. Just as with painting, photography has the ability to show us the world anew, in all its complexity. It's an art that embraces the multiple interpretations that emerge from quiet observation.
