Arne Quinze’s Uchronia is a towering sculpture constructed from wooden planks, evoking a sense of being in a massive bird's nest or a complex, organic shelter. The archways and intricate latticework that form this structure can be seen as a contemporary take on ancient archways and sacred spaces. Consider, for instance, the arch motif - a symbol seen in triumphal arches of Roman antiquity to Gothic cathedrals. The archway has served as a portal, a transition, a gateway to new possibilities. Similarly, Uchronia invites us to step into a realm outside the ordinary, a 'no-place' where rules are suspended. The use of wood, a natural and malleable material, speaks to a deeper human connection with nature and construction. Much like the weaving of nests, there is an inherent psychological comfort in the act of creating shelter and community. Uchronia becomes a modern echo of our ancestors' primal instincts for protection and social interaction.
