Pieter Tanjé created this print, "Entry into Jerusalem and Expulsion of the Money Changers from the Temple", using etching techniques. The composition divides into two distinct scenes, each dense with figures and architectural details rendered in precise lines. The upper scene, depicting the entry into Jerusalem, features a crowd extending towards the central figure on a donkey, their forms creating a dynamic, forward-moving rhythm. Below, the expulsion scene is charged with a different energy. Here, Tanjé uses more frantic lines to convey chaos and movement, as Jesus drives out the merchants, disrupting the temple's commerce. Notice how Tanjé employs a semiotic language of gestures and postures, each figure contributing to the narrative's unfolding drama. The stark contrast between the welcoming procession and the violent expulsion invites us to consider the destabilization of established social and religious orders. The artwork challenges viewers to interpret the dual nature of divine authority.
