This suspended structure by Inigo Manglano-Ovalle, an iceberg made from what looks like steel rods, is all about how we see and understand the world. It’s like the artist is sketching in three dimensions, using lines to create volume. The material of the sculpture is so interesting. The cool, hard metal contrasts so much with the idea of an iceberg, something cold and fragile. See how the lines create a sense of transparency, you can see through the object, but also a complex, almost chaotic, pattern. What’s that little square of green? It’s so unexpected, and just big enough to catch your eye. I am reminded of Eva Hesse, with the way the artist uses industrial materials and simple forms to evoke something much more emotional and complex. It's an exploration of form, space, and the tension between the artificial and the natural.
