This tassel band, made by an anonymous artist, is a study in repetitive gestures. The colours are moody—burgundy, gold, and black—like a stormy sunset. I can imagine the artist painstakingly weaving each thread, each tassel a tiny act of devotion. The texture is key, you can almost feel the individual strands between your fingers. Look closely, and you'll see how the triangles drip down from the black band, caught in a loose diamond formation like raindrops on a windowpane. It's the kind of obsessive, handmade work that makes you think about time, patience, and the sheer physicality of making. The tassels are each slightly different, a variation on a theme. This piece reminds me of the work of Ree Morton, who used craft materials to create sculptures full of personal meaning. Ultimately, this tassel band embraces ambiguity, inviting us to find our own stories within its threads.
