Optocht NSB 1936 - 1937

This small black and white photograph, titled "Optocht NSB," captures a moment frozen in time by an anonymous photographer. It's a modest thing, really, only a few centimeters in size, but it speaks volumes. I'm immediately drawn to the figures marching. What was it like to be there, holding that flag, walking in step with others? I wonder about the photographer, too, and where he might be standing. The image is grainy, and the light is flat, which gives everything a surreal feeling. It’s anonymous, but the image documents a pivotal moment in history. We can never truly know the mind of the artist, or, in this case, the photographer, but by looking closely, we enter into a dialogue across time, considering their intentions and how their choices shape our understanding. Each photograph builds upon those that came before, and lays the foundation for those yet to come. In the act of viewing, we extend this conversation, adding our own perspectives to the ongoing exchange.
