This photograph was taken by A. Reichwein to capture a group of cyclists. It's interesting to think about how this image came into being. The shutter snaps and an instant is frozen in time, but what was it like to be there, witnessing the moment firsthand? I can imagine Reichwein standing on the sidelines, holding his camera, carefully timing his shot to capture the cyclists at the peak of their race. What might he have been thinking? Was he anticipating the cyclists’ movements, trying to anticipate the perfect instant? The photograph is a study in texture and light; the dark tires contrast with the blur of the buildings and crowds. The cyclists are captured at full tilt, their blurred forms suggesting the speed and energy of the race. This piece reminds me of other photographers who try to freeze a moment in time, allowing us to reflect on the world around us. Artists are always in an ongoing conversation, influencing one another's creativity, allowing for multiple readings.
