This is 'Allerlei Jachten', a vintage print showing different forms of hunting, by Arie Willem Segboer. There’s a charming directness to the way it's rendered, not trying to be too slick, you know? I think that’s where the magic lies. The composition is separated into many different vignettes, each depicting some form of hunting. What's really captivating is the texture. It’s not about hiding the process, you can see the layering of colours. Look at how the different scenes are divided, it's all very immediate and in your face. There's a tension between control and letting go that is so exciting. It reminds me of other image makers and illustrators, especially those that aren't necessarily considered 'fine art'. There's a real conversation happening across all these images, which invites multiple readings and understandings, and I think that's really beautiful.
