This print, “Allerlei Jachten” by Arie Willem Segboer, it looks like it was printed with lithography, a medium that allows for a soft blend of colours, a smooth surface and a high level of detail. I imagine Segboer planning all these images within images, a collection of hunting scenes, each a little world of its own. Look at the colours, mostly earth tones with pops of red and blue, creating a sense of adventure and danger. There is an interesting combination of animals and people. Is it a commentary on man's relationship with nature, or just a documentation of different hunting practices from around the globe? I love the way that a single image can trigger so many different interpretations. It reminds me that art isn’t about answers, but about asking questions and pushing boundaries. It’s like a conversation with other artists across time, with each of us adding our voice to the mix.
