Lech Jankowski’s drawing, Wyplatanie wikliny, shows two figures with lines in the background. It reminds me of when I'm in the studio trying to work something out on paper. The lines in the background are like thoughts or maybe things being spoken. Are they weaving, or are they being woven? Look at these two figures, facing each other, somehow connected. I imagine the artist drawing them, maybe thinking about communication, or maybe about the strange way we relate to each other. The figures look like they are trapped. They might be reaching out to each other, trying to weave their stories together, but it is hard to tell. The overall mood is a bit mysterious. It makes me think about other artists who draw and paint the figure, like Guston or Rego, but also outsider artists. I feel that Jankowski is in conversation with them too. Artists are always sharing ideas, even across time. It reminds me that making art can be an exchange, a real connection with others.
