This photograph, made by an unknown artist, captures two women in full-length coats, posing in front of a painted backdrop. The sepia tones give it such a vintage feel, like stepping back into a different era. I love how the texture of their coats comes alive in the image. The woman on the left has this fuzzy, almost woolly coat, while her friend wears a more patterned, tweed-like fabric. You can almost feel the difference in the materials just by looking at the photo. There’s something so tender in the way they lean into one another. This simple gesture speaks volumes about their relationship. Their closeness becomes almost palpable through the lens. It reminds me of the work of Malick Sidibé, the way he captured the spirit of youth and friendship in his photographs, but here, there is an added layer of mystery. Who were these women, and what were their dreams? We can only imagine, and that’s part of the beauty of art. It opens a space for endless possibilities.
