Here we have this small painting by Gene Davis, one of his “Micro-Paintings," likely done with acrylic on a tiny block of wood. I can just imagine Davis working on this, his brush held steady, coaxing that little orange circle into being. There’s this sort of tender patience in it. The color is so unassuming, but then that little spot of orange demands our attention. It’s like a tiny sun against a warm sky. I feel like he's inviting us to slow down. He was known for his stripe paintings and later in life he also started to work small! There is something very intimate about small paintings. It’s a whisper in a world of shouts. It's a reminder of how much can be said with so little. Think of it as a private conversation between the artist and you!
