Intimitate 1925

Samuel Mutzner made this painting, Intimitate, with oils, and you can almost feel the brushstrokes, right? The painting's all about pinks, ochres, and these cool blues, kind of swirling together. I imagine Mutzner, brush in hand, circling around this form, trying to capture something fleeting. What was it like to make the painting? You can see the paint's pretty thick in places, like he's really digging in, trying to find the form. There’s this one blue squiggly line that runs down the edge, and it kind of reminds me of Matisse, when he just doodled over the top of his pictures.
