Young Cleric in a Cope Holding a Book 

Placido Costanzi (1702-1759) created this chalk drawing of a young cleric. The figure is shown in profile, wearing a long cope and holding a book. He appears to be looking upwards, possibly in prayer. The artist's use of hatching and shading gives the drawing a sense of depth and realism. The detail in the folds of the cleric’s clothing adds to the sense of realism. This drawing is an excellent example of Costanzi's ability to capture the human figure in a lifelike manner.
