Mark Maggiori painted “Wyoming Spring”, and right away I can just feel the warm sun on my face and smell the sagebrush, can you? I can see Mark out there, squinting at the sun as he paints this cowboy surveying the landscape. It looks like he’s used thin washes of paint to build up the scene. These browns, blues, and yellows are so vivid, that I can almost feel the air, the dust, the smells! I'm wondering, what does Mark think of Frederic Remington? Because this feels like it’s in conversation with him but it’s definitely his own thing, you know? It's a completely contemporary vision of the West and all its stories. The brushstrokes on the mountains give them a kind of hazy, dreamlike presence. Like all painters, Mark is part of this ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time. He’s embracing ambiguity and uncertainty, which allows for multiple interpretations. I love that!
