This silver hot water kettle with stand was created by Thomas Farrer in 1734-1735. The kettle features a rounded body, a spout and a black handle that is woven into the design. The piece rests on a stand with three scrolled legs, each ending in a paw. The kettle’s surface is decorated with a coat of arms and the stand is adorned with a circular burner. This piece, now held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is a fine example of 18th century English silver craftsmanship.
