Here we have "MLR" by Isa Genzken, looks like spray paint on some kind of patterned surface. The color palette is like rusted metal, all browns and golds, very process oriented in the way it’s been applied. The surface is super interesting, right? It's not just a flat plane; there's a physical texture underneath the paint. The paint itself seems thin and kind of splattered, like she’s letting the medium do its thing. Look at the hanging shapes near the top, they’re almost like handles. It’s gestural and loose but also has a kind of architectural vibe with that repeated pattern in the background. Genzken reminds me a little of Blinky Palermo, the way she combines abstraction with readymade or found elements. Both artists embrace ambiguity and a kind of playful, open-ended approach to making. There are no definitive meanings, but lots of space for our imaginations to play.
