Marc Chagall made this print, Chloe’s Kiss, using etching and aquatint. It’s like he's whispering a love story onto the paper. The color is so light, almost like a dream. I love the way the blue and green blend together, making the whole scene feel like it's underwater. The figures are so delicately drawn, floating in this space. Look closely, you can see how the lines are etched into the paper. The man is standing on a blue figure, maybe asleep, or floating. The colors are transparent, like a watercolor wash. It makes me think of other symbolist painters who let their imaginations run wild, like Odilon Redon, where everything feels possible and a little bit mysterious. Art doesn't have to make sense, it just has to make you feel something.
