This silver medal, created by Denis (II) Waterloos in 1675, commemorates the death of Claudius Lamoraal, Prince de Ligne. The obverse depicts a bust portrait of the prince, while the reverse features a ship on the sea with a banner running across it. The inscription on the reverse translates to “A ship which always sails under the line of Ligne.” The medal was likely commissioned to commemorate the prince's death and his importance to the House of Ligne. This small, delicate medal is a testament to the artistic skill of the Dutch medalist, Denis Waterloos.
