Dimensions 7.36 g
Curator: Here we have a coin, “As of Gordian III,” weighing just over 7 grams. It’s a ghostly green, almost vibrating with age. Editor: The verdigris is definitely the most striking thing. You can almost smell the earth from it; it makes the Emperor’s profile seem like a dream. Curator: Its creation would have been a carefully managed process. Who mined the metal, what were their circumstances? Where was the mint, and what was the political message being hammered into these objects, quite literally? Editor: It's funny to think of something so small carrying so much weight. It feels less like money and more like a tiny time capsule. I wonder, what stories did it witness changing hands? Curator: Indeed. And even in its degraded state, it persists, silently bearing witness to the rise and fall of empires. Editor: It really does make you think about time and impermanence. A powerful little fragment.
