Robert Rauschenberg made this 'Park - ROCIMEXICO' collage at some point, using photography and screen printing. I like the way he has stacked different images and patterns on top of one another; it’s like building a visual sandwich, each layer adding a different flavor. Look at the red flowers near the top – they’re bold and graphic, almost like a decorative flourish. And down below, the patterned curtain is faded and subdued, creating a sense of depth and texture. The whole thing feels very material, like he’s playing with the surface of the artwork, building it up and scraping it away. It reminds me of my own process of layering and collage in my painting. The way he combines disparate elements – the geometric shapes, the photographic images, the floral motifs – creates a sense of visual tension. It's about the act of seeing and making connections between things that might not otherwise belong together. Rauschenberg's work reminds me a bit of Kurt Schwitters. Both artists are pushing the boundaries of what art can be, and embracing the messiness and unpredictability of the creative process.
