M.C. Escher made this drawing, Symmetry Drawing, and I can only imagine his process, shifting and emerging through trial, error, and intuition. I can just imagine him, sitting there with his drawing tools, trying to figure out how all these shapes can fit together. What might he have been thinking when he made this? Maybe he was trying to create a sense of order and harmony. I see how he uses shape and color to create a feeling of movement. The reddish lizard-like creatures move in contrast to the light blue winged ones and the warm toned butterfly shapes. It feels like they’re flying or swimming through the air. Escher's work reminds us that artists are in an ongoing conversation, exchanging ideas across time. He uses his technical skill, his imagination, and his own perspective to create this work, which embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
