Shelf Clock 1790 - 1800

This "Shelf Clock" was crafted by American clockmaker Aaron Willard between 1790 and 1800. The clock stands on a square base with bracket feet, topped by a rectangular case that houses the clock's movement and a round, white clock face. The arched top of the case, typical of Willard's design, is reminiscent of the "banjo clock" style. Now housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the clock is a fine example of American craftsmanship from the late 18th century.
