Vincent John Longo made this print, Curved Equations, using an unstated printmaking process. The stark contrast between black and white creates an intriguing dialogue between precision and the unpredictable nature of the printing process. The shapes feel both defined and fluid. See how Longo's marks reveal a physicality, an engagement with the material? The textured lines, the way the ink sits on the paper—it’s almost sculptural. Take a look at the upper center of the print. The vertical lines meet an ovoid shape to suggest depth and volume. It reminds me of Eva Hesse, whose work also found a balance between geometric forms and organic materiality. Art’s not about fixed answers. It’s an ongoing conversation, a dance between what is seen and what is felt. Longo invites us into that dance.
