This photograph of the Remains of the Temple of Zeus in Olympia was taken by Frédéric Boissonnas at some point, though it's tricky to know when exactly. The black and white image gives an archeological insight into the ruins of what was once a Temple. What strikes me most is the grainy texture, almost like looking through time itself. You can see the huge blocks, that once made up this imposing structure, scattered like a childs building blocks. The contrast between light and shadow creates depth, a certain emotional weight, almost like a memory resurfacing. It reminds me of some of the photographs by Eugène Atget, who captured the streets of Paris with the same quiet and persistent eye, looking for evidence of time and human intervention. It feels like there is an ongoing conversation here, through the photographs, that stretches and evolves across time. These are photographs that embrace ambiguity, inviting us to bring our own stories and experiences to the ruins.
