Carlos Orozco Romero made this painting of Lago de Patzcuaro with what looks like delicate brushwork and a muted, almost pastel-like palette. It’s interesting how the material qualities of the paint – so thin and washy – create this feeling of serene distance, like looking through a hazy memory. The surface of the lake, rendered with these horizontal strokes, is so still, it almost merges with the sky. It makes me think about the push and pull between abstraction and representation. There’s this one area, right in the center where the land almost disappears into the water – that’s where the painting really hums for me. It’s like the artist is reminding us that everything is connected, nothing exists in isolation, which is what good art is all about, right? It’s about conversations, echoes, and the ongoing dance of ideas.
