Quercitron Bark 1923

Editor: Here we have Quercitron Bark, made by Skilbeck Brothers. It looks like bark inside of a jar. It has a slightly clinical, scientific feeling... What do you see in this piece? Curator: It's a bit like a time capsule, isn’t it? That bark, trapped since 1923, whispering secrets of London’s past. I wonder, what stories could it tell us about dyes, textiles, even the very air of that era? Editor: So, it’s more than just dried tree stuff? Curator: Absolutely! It’s a portal. Perhaps it even makes you think about what we choose to preserve, and what we leave behind. Editor: I never thought about it that way, but it does put things in perspective. Curator: Precisely. Art, even in a humble jar, challenges us to look deeper, doesn't it?
