*Matigheid met gepersonifieerde zonden* is a 16th-century Dutch print by an anonymous artist that utilizes allegory to depict the importance of moderation. The central figure of the print is a woman, likely representing Temperance, who holds her hands in prayer as rays of light emanate from the sun above her. The scene is divided into two halves, representing the dangers of excess on either side, and the virtue of moderation in the center. The left half of the print depicts seven figures, each representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins: Gluttony, Lust, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. The right side of the print features angels holding scales, representing the balance that is required for moderation. The image is a prime example of allegorical imagery used in Dutch art.
