Károly Lotz created this study with graphite, showing a nude woman gazing at herself in a mirror. The soft lines and shading give the figure a gentle, almost dreamlike quality. The composition is structured by the geometric simplicity of the block she sits on, which creates a stable base, contrasting with the organic, flowing lines of her body. Her posture, with one leg crossed over the other, introduces a dynamic asymmetry, inviting our eyes to move around the composition. Lotz also includes studies of a hand, and a draped figure at the bottom left, providing a glimpse into his artistic process. Looking at this study, we might think about the cultural codes around beauty and representation.
