This black and white photograph by the NSB, whose title translates to 'Youth Storm Lined Up', is charged. Just imagine them all standing there, trying to hold still. I look at this, and I wonder what it would have been like for the photographer to be there, looking through the lens. Were they looking for something? Did they think that, if they took enough pictures, one of them would reveal something important about the scene? It reminds me of other photographs of organized groups throughout history. There's a formal aspect but also a sense of the unique. The photographer must have wanted to show what it felt like to be there, a record of an event, a way of remembering. I wonder if the photographer wanted to capture the essence of the moment, the tension, or the feeling of solidarity?
