Konstantin Korovin painted this landscape with oil on canvas, and it’s full of these juicy, gestural marks. The painting feels so spontaneous, like it came together quickly, but I'm sure Korovin spent hours, days even, layering and adjusting the colors. I can imagine him standing there, brush in hand, really in tune with the scene and then the feeling of it, trying to capture the essence of the landscape. The paint is applied in these loose, confident strokes, especially when you look at how he painted the trees. It’s like he’s not just painting what he sees, but also what he feels, translating that directly onto the canvas. There’s an amazing dialogue happening here, between the artist, the landscape, and the viewer. It reminds me of other painters who were equally interested in capturing light and atmosphere and who embrace ambiguity. I bet they inspired one another. Painting is like that – an ongoing conversation that evolves over time.
