This little elephant was drawn by Oleg Holosiy, we don't know exactly when, and it’s just lines on paper. It's so simple and free, you can almost see the artist thinking through the form. I really love the line work. It's not precious; you can see where Holosiy went over the lines, adjusting the shape. Look at the back legs, how they’re just kind of suggested, not fully described. It gives the whole drawing a sense of movement, like the elephant is caught in a moment. The way the trunk is pointing up, it’s almost celebratory, like a little dance. This piece reminds me of Picasso's quick sketches. It's about capturing the essence of the animal, not a perfect representation. And that's what makes it so charming. It's not trying to be anything it's not. It's just a joyful, simple sketch of an elephant. And sometimes, that's all you need.
