Rene Duvillier made "Les 3 mondes" with paint, and, well, it's all about process, isn't it? I’m struck by the swirling marks he laid down. They almost feel involuntary, like automatic writing. You can sense the physicality of Duvillier really digging in. The paint isn’t precious here. It’s chalky, dense. He’s pushing it around, maybe with a rag or a stiff brush, smearing it this way and that to get these loops. Look at the top left, see how the white paint is dragged across the black, not covering it completely. This feels almost like a memory of a mark. I can’t help but think of Cy Twombly, with his scribbled, searching lines. Ultimately, it’s like this piece invites you into a conversation, not to pin it down.
