This pen-and-ink drawing, "Diverse studier til i alt 7 personer. Bl.a. til kvinder, der bærer knipper, og til en mand med en kniv, samt til et æsels- og to hundehoveder og en liggende hund," by Italian artist Giulio Cesare Procaccini (1574-1625), is a study for a larger composition. It is comprised of sketches for a variety of figures, including women carrying bundles, a man with a knife, and the heads of a donkey and two dogs. These preparatory studies are a testament to Procaccini’s meticulous process, revealing the artist’s thoughtful exploration of form and movement before committing to the final work. This particular study, housed at the SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst in Denmark, is a valuable insight into the creative mind of a prominent Baroque artist.
