Hero and Leander 18th-19th century

Editor: This is Richard Cosway's "Hero and Leander," a drawing, sepia ink on paper. It feels very theatrical, almost like a stage set, with all these figures frozen in place. What do you make of this scene? Curator: It’s a vision, isn't it? I see Cosway, ever the romantic, dreaming up antiquity. A world of yearning and loss, all rendered in delicate sepia washes. Notice how the cupid seems to preside over the figures, it is a subtle reminder that love governs all. What do you think?
