This Skirt was made, we think, by a Shan artist, out of cotton! Just look at this gorgeous field of zig-zags. Row after row of orange rippling waves outlined in black and white. It's a pattern that's both regular and slightly wonky, which is so much more human, don’t you think? It reminds me of Agnes Martin, actually, though she makes grids rather than waves. The textile has a really satisfying repetition, almost like music. And I love how the slight imperfections in the lines add a kind of hand-made texture that gives it a unique feel. Each of those waves is its own little world. It makes me wonder about the artist, the kind of life, and the kind of world that made this piece. What does wearing it feel like?
