Here we have a lidded box made by Ludwig Moser & Söhne, and I’m immediately drawn to the detailed frieze of Amazons that wraps around its circumference. It gives me a feeling of both precision and repetition. What's really fascinating here is the contrast between the smoothness of the dark lid and the intricate, almost chaotic, detail of the frieze. The gold figures—are they etched or applied?—create a world of tiny gestures and movements. The texture seems almost tactile, as if you could trace the Amazon's every move with your fingertip. The deep purple glass of the lid and feet is just the right counterpoint. I’m reminded of Klimt’s decorative style, that same layering of pattern and detail. But here, the box form adds an extra dimension. It's a reminder that art isn't just about the visual; it's about how we touch, use, and live with objects every day.
