Mariam Aslamazian painted "The National Competent Woman" with oils on canvas. Look at the pots, repeated in the background! I can imagine her delighting in painting those warm hues over and over again. You can almost feel the artist building up this scene, stroke by stroke, adjusting the colors and forms as she goes. I wonder what Aslamazian was thinking as she painted the wavy lines on the pot, a steady hand creating a perfect, imperfect line. Like the work of many painters, this piece, with its bright yellows and blues, and the earthiness of the pots, shows me how artists are constantly in conversation, picking up threads from each other, and weaving them into something new. What do you think?
