Tetyana Yablonska made this painting called, ‘A Winter Window’ with delicate lines of pastel, maybe even charcoal, it’s hard to tell. But it makes you wonder, what is it that Yablonska saw, what did she want to say, looking out of her window? It feels cold, in the way that it is muted, and pale. The colours are sad, and then there are these yellow, orange blobs at the bottom of the page, like three little suns, so alive and joyous, a pure blast of colour, almost like a complete contradiction. And this is what makes this work so intriguing. It’s a collection of marks. Some are light, some are dark, there's an area of focus, and then an area of pure suggestion. It is what the painter Giorgio Morandi, who also looked for inspiration in the everyday, called ‘the world that lives within itself’.
