François du Quesnoy’s “Flagellation” is a bronze sculpture depicting the moment of Christ’s flagellation. Created in the 17th century, the piece consists of three figures: two men, likely Roman soldiers, and a central figure of Christ in pain. The sculpture shows du Quesnoy's mastery of realism in his portrayal of the figures' emotions and physicality, and demonstrates the powerful impact of Baroque sculpture. "Flagellation" was likely made for a private collection and is now in the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
