This small textile panel, made by the Rimac people, is adorned with potent symbols reflecting their world. Notice the central, anthropomorphic figure, scepter in hand, perhaps a deity or high-ranking individual. Flanking him are avian and aquatic motifs— birds and fish— essential elements of the Rimac cosmology. These creatures are not mere decorations; they echo across cultures. Birds often symbolize the soul's journey, while fish represent fertility and the depths of the unconscious. Think of the Greek god Poseidon, master of the seas, his trident akin to the scepter. Over time, the scepter has evolved into symbols of earthly and divine power, appearing in different contexts from royal courts to religious icons, and even pop culture. Such symbols tap into our collective memory, engaging our subconscious on a primal level. The emotional weight of these symbols— power, divinity, life—resonates, reminding us of the shared human experience that transcends time and space.
