This black and white landscape by H.M. Carstensen is printed on a page from a book. It’s a scene where the land meets the sky, with a little house nestled right in the middle of it all, under a thick blanket of snow. The tires have made tracks through the snow, leading our eye right to the little house, inviting us in, as if this scene has been waiting for us. I wonder what Carstensen was thinking when they made it? I imagine him trudging through the snow, looking for something. Maybe not even something specific, maybe just looking for a feeling, and the feeling found him, right here. You know, making art can be a real conversation with yourself. Like, what do I really want to say? How do I want to say it? It's a deep dive into your own feelings and thoughts. But then, you put it out there, and suddenly, it’s part of a bigger conversation. It’s out of your hands and into everyone else’s.
